FAQ for Colonic Irrigation Hydrotherapy at La Spa Therapie Malahide – Part Two

August 22, 2012

A couple of weeks ago we answered a few common questions about colonic hydrotherapy (also known as colonic irrigation or colonic cleansing). Because this treatment can be quite nervewracking for first timers we really wanted to answer as many questions as possible.

So here are a few more Frequently Asked Questions about colonics...

Is a colonic irrigation treatment expensive?

Well, it’s not cheap. But a treatment which involves flushing away a lifetime’s build up of impacted fecal matter from your colon, supercharging your digestive system and improving your overall health shouldn’t be cheap. If you see a clinic advertising ‘cheap' colon cleansing run in the opposite direction.

Our prices at La Spa aren’t ‘cheap’ but they are very reasonable when compared with exclusive 5-star spas. A session costs €90, a course of three costs €230 and a course of 6 colonic treatments costs €450

What’s actually involved in a colonic cleanse?

First, you lay down on a hygenic custom-made treatment table. Then, a thin tube is inserted carefully into the rectum and warm filtered water is gently pumped into the colon. The therapist gently massages your stomach to encourage movement and after a short time the impacted fecal matter is flushed through the tube into a sterilised waste unit. A session lasts around 45 minutes and in that time you should pass the equivalent of 20-30 regular bowel movements.

Is colonic irrigation painful?

For first timers the sensation will seem strange and a little uncomfortable, but it won’t be painful. Many people come to find the treatment deeply relaxing and report feeling refreshed and energised afterwards.

Isn’t a detox diet just as effective as a colonics treatment?

Detox diets like juice fasts are designed to eliminate toxins from your body and lose weight fast. People usually undergo a quick-fix detox diet after an overly-indulgent weekend or to shift a few kilos before a big event. A colonic irrigation cleanse on the other hand is a longer term solution, removing toxic waste collected in the colon that detox diets can’t shift, and restoring and improving overall digestive health.

What do I need to do to prepare for a colonics irrigation hydrotherapy?

When you come for a colonic it’s best to be as relaxed as possible, so give yourself plenty of time to rest before your treatment. Drink plenty of water and eat light, nourishing meals in the lead up to the treatment like raw vegetables – this will help to loosen colon waste and kick-start the detox process. Avoid dairy products, red meat, shell fish, processed carbohydrates or fried and sugary foods.
